Trump Threatens to 'Totally Destroy North Korea'

As my major is broadcast journalism and I plan to share the news with the world each and every day in the future, I do my very best to stay up to date with current events each day. With that being said, international relations is not necessarily something I have a huge background in but I have a basic idea of what the major stories are and it is really interesting to get deeper into these important events happening in our world.

Today, leaders from around the world have gathered together to speak to one another at the United Nations General Assembly. This is a big occasion for President Trump because it is his very first time addressing at the United Nations National Assembly. I was not surprised to see that the President has already made some strong accusations, and somewhat threats towards other nations. President Trump really made his stance on North Korea known when he said, “we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea.” There is a lot that I do not agree with in regards to our president, however there is a lot that I do agree with. And I definitely agree with Trump when he said that North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, “threatens the entire world with unthinkable loss of life” due to its nuclear weapons program. It is definitely worrisome to imagine how this powerful nation North Korea is in possession of such dangerous missiles and nuclear weapons. Not only is this current issue of nuclear weapons worrisome but also the way Mr. Kim has been ruling North Korea for years that has been undoubtedly corrupt for so many years. It is interesting to see Trump take such a strong stance on this issue, he very powerfully believes that all nations should avoid trade, alliances, and support the country that, according to Trump, “imperils the world.” Nations such as Russia and China were mentioned by Trump as he believes they should not continue to do business with North Korea.

I have always been aware of the situation with the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, but I have not been aware of how bad it has been, especially recently. According to the New York Times, Trump emphasized his accusation of the regime Mr. Kim has been overseeing for years that has starved his people, brutalized and imprisoned an American college student, and assassinated his own older brother (The New York Times). President Trump went on to say that if other countries cannot come to the same agreement that America would act alone. Trump prioritized the “America First” agenda. He wants to always put America first, according to the New York Times, and that “the United States will forever be a great friend to the world and especially to its allies.” I find that to be something very reassuring as we are in a time of a lot of international threat. I personally have always found Trump’s priority for America to be a great and important quality that he has as our president, and I hope to continue to see that throughout the rest of his time in office.
